The Word
Readiness is the state of being fully prepared for action. It’s not passive – it’s about being intentional, alert, and responsive.
On the Field
We assume a “Softball Ready” position for every pitch. It begins with a “step, step, hop” as the pitcher begins her motion. As the ball crosses the plate, we land on the balls of our feet, with hips and knees hinged, body balanced, glove down and flared, face up and forward, and eyes locked on the pitch. With this position and timing, we are ready to react in any direction on contact. This posture isn’t just physical – it’s mental. It signals to our teammates, coaches, opponents, and ourselves that: “I’m here. I’m focused. I’m ready to make a play.”
In Our Lives
Just as we prepare our bodies for every pitch, we must prepare our spirit for all of life’s moments – good, bad, meaningful, or mundane. In this week’s scripture, Jesus calls us to be faithful, alert, and ready to serve; because we never know when that next opportunity or challenge will come to us.
The Closer
In every inning and every interaction, we are called to be watchful, prepared, and faithful. On the field, readiness means being mentally focused and physically positioned to make a play. Off the field, readiness means being spiritually awake and available for God’s call. Let’s pray for the strength to being “Softball Ready” every day and in every situation.
