The Word
Alacrity is cheerful readiness – a spirit that responds quickly, eagerly, and wholeheartedly. It’s not just about being willing to do a job; it’s about stepping forward with purpose and enthusiasm when called upon.
On the Field
Alacrity shows up in how we respond to opportunity. When a coach asks, “What position do you play?” – our answer should always be, “Wherever you need me, Coach!”
We must focus our daily training on mastering our primary position(s); but we must also listen and learn while other athletes are being coached in their positions and step outside our comfort zones by taking extra reps across the field.
Readiness makes us reliable. Versatility makes us valuable. So when the call comes – whether to sub in, cover an injury, or seize a key moment – we’re prepared to be the “next player up!”
In Our Lives
In our spiritual walk, alacrity means saying “yes” to God before we know the whole plan. Isaiah didn’t wait for details. He heard God’s call and answered with boldness: “Send me.” We must trust that wherever He sends us – at home, at school, on the field – we’re equipped to serve.
The Closer
Alacrity means showing up with full heart and zero hesitation. On the field, it makes us versatile and valuable. In life, it makes us responsive to God’s voice. Let’s pray to have Isaiah’s alacrity – in mind, body, and spirit – so that we may answer the call with courage, joy, and conviction.
